Rao Raja Nihalkaran Ji Mandloi
Rao Nihalkaran, the grandson of Rao Nandlal, presided over a period of relative stability. A devout and multilingual ruler, he maintained courtly decorum and strong administrative ties with the Holkars. His pilgrimage in 1765 was arranged by Malhar Rao Holkar, and his land holdings were reaffirmed by Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. Nihalkaran continued to develop Navlakha Bagh and ensured trade routes and agricultural output remained robust. Neighbourhoods like Nihalpura and public gardens developed during his rule still bear witness to his contribution to Indore’s urban development.
